This project received an award from the National Institute of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice (2020-VT-BX-0111). The views, findings, conclusions, and recommendations presented in this document belong to the authors and do not necessarily represent those of the U.S. Department of Justice or Northeastern University, University of New Hampshire, Boston University, RTI International, their trustees, or their funders.
The authors thank several individuals for their tireless dedication, support, and data collection efforts on this study, including Jordan Hardenburgh, Alexa Surrency, Tori Schofield, Sage Shumate, Tiffany Hidalgo, Aarya Patel, Alexa Grayson, Peyton Scalise, Samantha Charm, Lauren Vollinger, and Leanne McCallum Desselle. We are deeply grateful for their hard work supporting agency outreach, transcribing interviews, and assisting with the coding of interviews. We are grateful for the support and assistance of Kris Lugo-Graulich and Jennifer Grotpeter at the National Institute of Justice for their oversight and support of the project.
The data collected for this report would not have been possible without the cooperation of the many providers and staff members within the service agencies that serve this population. We are incredibly grateful for their assistance in facilitating access to young people in their programming and for sharing their insights, experiences, and recommendations. Lastly, we are profoundly thankful to the young people and adult survivors who shared their experiences with us through surveys or interviews. Their willingness to share their experiences with the research team and provide the difficult details of their life, history, and experiences with health care, was inspirational.
